Another Child Porn Suspect Nabbed by Carmi Authorities

Another child pornography suspect has been arrested in White County. The latest suspect has been identified as Clifford Steve Champion, 70 of County Road 1100 North in Carmi. Champion was taken into custody Thursday morning, December 5 after authorities executed a search warrant at his home. The White County Sheriff's Department, Carmi City Police and agents of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force made the arrest shortly after 9 A.M. on December 5.  On Monday, December 9, three class-2 felony charges of unlawful possession of child pornography depicting a victim under the age of 13 were formally filed against Champion .  After being booked at the Carmi-White County jail, Champion posted $10,000 cash bond and was released from custody pending a January 13, 2020 first appearance in White County Circuit Court. In the past, Champion has worked as a U.S. Postal Service employee and managed a local fraternal club.  

Champion's arrest marks the fourth child porn suspect to be nabbed in White County in the last year. Christian M. Snyder, 45 of Grayville made his first appearance in White County Circuit Court in January of this year on three class-2 felony charges of possession of child porn.  Snyder has been free after posting $3,500 cash bond pending another pretrial hearing set for January 7, 2020. 

In October of this year, local police and agents of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force arrested Charles E. Pugh, 37 of Renshaw Avenue in Carmi on two class-X felony charges of production of child porn.  Pugh subsequently entered a guilty plea to the charges and was sentenced to fifty years in prison.

Then in November of this year, local authorities in the Internet Crimes task force arrested Andrew Patrick Horne, 28 of Carmi.  Horne remains in the Carmi-White County jail on three class-X felony charges of child pornography production and one class-3 felony charge of violating he Illinois Sex Offender Registry law.  Horne remains in the Carmi-White County jail under $200,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing set for December 18 in White County Circuit Court.
