Carmi City Police report the arrest of another child pornography suspect. Seth R. Howard, 20 of Elm Street in Carmi was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, March 10 following the execution of a search warrant at his home.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter said authorities received a tip in early February of this year that Howard may have been in possession of child porn. “During the execution of a search warrant at Howard's home, we seized his cell phone and other electronic items,” Chief Carter said. “Howard's arrest came after several subpoenas were issued and search warrants executed. These cases take quite a bit of time to investigate.”

Chief Carter added that Howard's arrest came through a cooperative effort with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the same agency responsible for assisting in the recent arrests of a number of other White County child porn suspects.

The arrest of Howard marks the fifth child porn suspect to be arrested in White County through the efforts of local police and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task force. Recently, Charles E. Pugh, 37 of Carmi was sentenced to 30 years behind bars for his crime. Andrew Patrick Horne, 28 of Carmi also drew a 30 year sentence. Two other suspects are awaiting trial on child porn-related charges. They are Steve Champion, 71 of Carmi and Christian Snyder, 45 of Grayville. Snyder and Champion are both scheduled to appear in White County Circuit Court April 14 for a pretrial hearing. Both suspects remain free on bond pending trial.
