The Carmi City Police Department is seeking applicants to fill the vacancy from an upcoming retirement.

Chief Jason Carter told the Carmi City Council last week that Officer Donna Huber plans to retire in January of 2022 after 24 years of service. Because the application process and training is lengthy, Carter is seeking applicants for the job now. The training process itself takes four months before an officer begins field training, Carter said. 

The Carmi Police Department will be issuing a physical and written examination for the position of Patrolman on May 22 at the Carmi City Council Chambers on East Main Street in downtown Carmi. On that date, registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the physical (POWER) testing to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the written examination to be held at 1 p.m. The purpose of the testing is to update the department’s eligibility list of possible candidates to fill the upcoming...
