Carmi City Councilmen have approved the purchase of a new patrol vehicle for the Carmi City Police Department.
Aldermen agreed to seek the purchase of a 2021 Dodge Ram pickup truck which will replace a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria in the department’s fleet. The vehicle will be purchased from the Jansen Auto Group through the state of Illinois bid process at a cost of $30,300. The truck will replace a cruiser with 132,000 miles.
Chief Jason Carter noted that after the 2010 Ford is replaced, there will be just one Crown Vic left – a 2009 model that has been used by the School Resource Officer. That vehicle currently has just 80,000 miles.
Currently, there are ten vehicles in the Carmi Police Department fleet. The new Dodge Ram truck will not be delivered until July.
