The death toll from COVID-19 in the seven southeastern Illinois counties of White, Edwards, Wabash, Wayne, Gallatin, Saline and Hamilton has climbed to 120. According to officials with the Egyptian Public Health Department, two of the latest deaths were recorded in White County on Saturday, Dec. 26. Since the pandemic emerged, the number of laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in those seven counties has climbed to 6,473. 

A number of COVID-19 outbreaks at area nursing homes are also being monitored by officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health. The latest nursing outbreak numbers around the region include: 23 cases and one death at Carmi Manor; 75 cases and eight deaths at Wabash Christian Retirement in Carmi; 22 cases and three deaths at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville; 47 cases and one death at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Mount Carmel; 84 cases and 11 deaths at Aperion Nursing Home in Fairfield; five cases and no deaths at Brookstone Estates in Fairfield; 18 cases and seven deaths at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and two cases and no deaths at Cisne Rehab.
