With hot summer days and kids going back to school, it is hard to realize that Dairy Days is just around the corner. The Norris City Dairy Days Committee recently met to begin finalizing plans for this year’s festival, which will be held Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th. This year’s theme celebrating our agricultural heritage is “Under the Harvest Moon.”
Once again, McKenna Ledford will be in charge of organizing the Dairy Day Parade, which will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday the 27th. Since the parade was rained out last year, Kern Doerner will be serving as this year’s parade marshal.
Highlighting Friday night’s activities will be the Prince, Princess, and Jr. Miss contests, followed by the crowning of the 2019 Miss Dairy Days.
A new feature this year will be the performance of a talented local group called “The Appetizers” on the stage immediately after the Miss Dairy Days pageant.
Saturday attractions will include the Doll and Pet Parade, the various baby contests, local talent, and at 5:00 P.M. the annual Dairy Day Parade. Following the big parade, this year’s featured entertainment will be provided by a group called “We’ve Got It Covered” out of DuQuoin, Illinois, featuring a variety of music including southern rock, country music, and golden oldies.
Also on Saturday will be the annual Walk in Faith, led by members of the Norris City Ministerial Alliance.
In addition to all of these activities, the weekend will feature the usual fare of food vendors, arts and crafts exhibits, cake walks, washer pitching and corn-hole tournaments.
The Dairy Day Committee would like to thank everyone who has helped stage our past celebrations, whether through financial donations or with volunteer assistance of some sort. It would be impossible to conduct this event without everyone’s assistance.
