White County may end up being ground zero for fracking in the state of Illinois.
Woolsey Operating Company, located in Wichita, Kan., is hoping to begin hydraulic fracturing near Enfield in the near future. If their permit to do so is approved, it will be the first issued in the state since former Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation to allow for fracking in Illinois in 2013.
The company’s application for such a permit was announced last June, though it was put on hold until further details were released on the project.
The well, which will be labeld Woodrow No. 1H-310408-193, sits just north of Enfield.
According to paperwork filed with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Oil & Gas Division, the company plans to drill vertically 5,280 feet and horizontally 4,780 feet.
