Mendenhall moved to Indianapolis in preparation for murder trial

Suspected serial killer Bruce D. Mendenhall of Albion has been transferred to the Marion County jail in Indianapolis where he will stand trial for the 2007 murder of Carma J. Purpura. The 70-year-old inmate was transferred August 29 from a state prison in Hickman County, Tennessee to Marion County where he is being held without bond until his trial. Purpura is one of as many as nine victims allegedly killed by the former over-the-road trucker from Albion.

Purpura, a 32-year-old mother of two was last seen at a south-side Indianapolis truck stop on July 11, 2007. Her body was found along the Louie B. Nunn Parkway in Barren County, Kentucky on August 15, 2011. The Louisville, Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Officer identified her remains through DNA evidence.
