Sheriff Doug Maier announces retirement
- Updated

After more than 40 years in law enforcement, White County Sheriff Doug Maier has announced his retirement. Maier will end his career February 28 and has named longtime White County Sheriff's Sergeant Randy Graves as his successor. The GOP has approved Grave's appointment, but the pick must still be approved by the White County Board before it becomes official. Maier said he has spoken with the County Board Chairman and does not expect opposition to the pick.
Sheriff Maier began his career in law enforcement in 1978 when he was hired by Wabash County Sheriff Randy Grounds. After three years in Wabash County, Grounds returned to White County where he was hired by Sheriff Bob Duckworth, serving as a deputy for 21 years.
