Sturgal acquitted in sex case



A White County jury deliberated for just over six hours Friday before finding 32-year-old Christopher P. Sturgal of Carmi not guilty of charges claiming he sexually assaulted a White County woman.

Sturgal had been charged with a Class-1 felony charge of criminal sexual assault and two Class-4 felony charges of criminal trespass to a residence with persons present. The jury found him not guilty of all charges.

Sturgal’s case dates back to December of 2020 when he was accused of sexually assaulting a female “who was unable to give knowing consent.” He had been held in the White County jail under $250,000 bond pending his trial which got underway last Tuesday, March 16.
