Suspicious fire in Enfield

By Len Wells

An early morning fire destroyed the Mike Lydick home in Enfield Sunday.  A relative spotted the blaze just before 6 o'clock Sunday morning and called the fire department. The home, located on Fir Street, is considered a total loss.  The fire is considered suspicious and is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the White County Sheriff's Department.

No one was home when the fire broke out. A neighbor said Mr. Lydick was in Florida at the time. The Enfield Fire Chief immediately called for assistance from Carmi and Norris City as the home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.  Firemen remained on scene for more around three hours and were called back mid-morning when the fire rekindled. No injuries were reported.

Now retired, Mr. Lydick previously served as an Enfield police officer. In the last month, his home has been burglarized, making the fire more suspicious.  In a recent burglary, someone allegedly entered Lydick's home and took a firearm. He also reported a case of stolen identity recently after someone allegedly opened a Cox Communications account in Arizona...
