39 year old Travis Vaughn, of Barnhill, was driving East on Illinois Route 14 and slowed down to turn South on County Road 500 East. Merle Langley, 50 of McLeansboro, was also traveling eastbound behind Vaughn and slowed down. However, Jeremy Rush, 43 of Springerton, was behind Langley and failed to slow down, for unknown reasons.

Rush struck the rear of Langley’s vehicle, a 2016 Dodge Ram, causing it to strike the rear of Vaughan’s vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.  All three vehicles came to a halted off the North side of Illinois Route 14, with Rush’s 2016 Ford F150 overturning in a creek. Vaughan was uninjured and was released at the scene. Langley and Rush were flown to a regional hospital by Life Flight.

Rush was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.

Illinois State Police were assisted at the scene by White County Ambulance Service, Enfield Fire Department, Life Flight, White County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
