2019 Bullpups ready to take to the diamond

ADDRESSING THE TROOPS. Carmi-White County Junior High School baseball head coach Justin Simmons (center) talks to his players during tryouts on Monday, July 30, at Bradshaw Park.

The 2019 junior high baseball season is set to start in less than a week, and the CWC Bullpups will be ready to play as head coach Justin Simmons enters his 12th season as their skipper.

Simmons feels that this year’s squad will be competitive, especially if some of his players fall into essential roles for the team.

“We have a few eighth graders we hope take a big step to lead our team,” said Simmons. “Also, we have plenty of seventh graders that will have to play major roles this season.”

This year’s schedule will be competitive as always, but a few teams will be tough according to Simmons.

“Salem and Flora have been tough the past few years,” added Simmons. “I expect them to be good again.”

The Bullpups open the 2019 campaign on August 15 when they host Mt. Vernon (IL).
