The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs picked up their first Black Diamond Conference East win of the year on Thursday, January 9, when they defeated Edwards County 38-28 at Linda Oxby Gymnasium in Albion.

CWC (3-16, 1-3 BDCE) came out firing in the first quarter. Sydney Lucas (team-high 12 points) led the perimeter attack while Elleigh Gray (game-high eight rebounds) led the interior approach to help build an 11-8 lead heading into the second quarter.

Edwards County (5-11, 1-3), known for their outside shooting, had difficulty connecting on deep shots. The Lady Lions went 5-for-27 from beyond the arc for the contest, resulting in 26-16 deficit heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, CWC found themselves leading by 14 (30-16) early. But Edwards County crept back into the contest. Caelyn Nelson (game-high 16 points) started to find her shooting eye, leading a late run to cut the lead down to six (32-26) with about three minutes to play. Although CWC shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the free throw line, Lucas and Gray calmly went to the charity stripe late in the game to seal the victory.
