Junior Cardinals Fall on 8th Grade Night

The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Junior Cardinal basketball team returned to action Thursday evening when they welcomed the Galatia Bearcats to town for a Little Greater Egyptian Conference match up.  This contest would also be the night that all eighth grade students playing a role in this year's season would be recognized whether they be a player, cheerleader, statistician, or announcer.

When all the accolades were complete, action got underway.  The first quarter would find the Bearcats jumping out to the early 6-0 lead but the Junior Cardinals would battle back to knot the contest at 6-all before seeing Galatia go on a 4-0 run to finish the first frame with a 10-6 advantage. Second quarter action was all Bearcats as they erupted for a massive 18-7 run to leave NCOE trailing, 28-13, as halftime arrived.

Following intermission, the Jr. Cards made some adjustments on both ends of the court.  This allowed NCOE to climb back into the contest as they went on a 13-4 run to narrow the Bearcat lead to just six points with one quarter remaining.  The fourth and final stanza would witness Galatia going an early run to extend their lead back out.  NCOE battled back the remainder of the way and would cut into the Bearcat lead but they ran out of time as they fell by the final score of 49-36.

Lotlane Baker led NCOE (3-14) with 15 points while Brockton Washburn added seven, Spencer Shipp six, Bryer Sauls six, and Dayton Tharp two. Shipp and Washburn were each credited with two assists while Zeke Baumgart added one.
