Saturday morning would find the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield boy's cross country team lacing up their shoes for the IHSA Sectional Cross Country Meet that took place at the Benton City Park. This 2.92 rugged course would witness the Fighting Cardinals claiming a 20th Place finish as a team. Although this 534 point score would not earn NCOE a berth into the final round, it was quite an accomplishment to have made it this far as a team.
The Fighting Cardinals did find runners putting forth their best effort thus far this season as several finished the course with personal best times, but as he had done throughout the whole season, Joe Melton paved the way for NCOE with a time of 17:42 which earned him a 103rd place finish. Preston Long put forth a very gutsy performance as he crossed the line behind Melton in 109th place with a time of 17:52. Next across the finish line for the Fighting Cardinals would be Ty Money in 122nd Place at 18:12 followed by Lucas Thomas in 128th Place at 18:30, Joel Hortin in 135th Place at 18:43, Jake Rush in 140th Place at 19:11, and C.J. Richardson in 143rd Place at 19:29.
Unfortunately for NCOE, no Fighting Cardinal would finish the race with a high enough place to earn a berth into the IHSA State Meet as an individual which concluded the 2019 cross country campaign.
