After giving up the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning, Post 224 rallied for eight runs in the top of the eighth frame to get past Mt. Vernon (IN) on Tuesday, June 4, at Mt. Vernon High School.

Travis Black and Cole Blazier helped Post 224 (2-1) jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, courtesy of an RBI double and a sacrifice fly that scored Brandon Skaggs, respectively.

After Mt. Vernon cut the deficit to 2-1 through four innings of play, Carmi answered in the top of the fifth when Trey Simmons jacked a home run over the right-field fence to push the score to 3-1.

Mt. Vernon rallied in their last at-bats. Trailing 3-2, the home team was able to push the tying tally across the plate utilizing a walk, a passed ball, and a hit to force extra innings.

Post 224 went to work in the top of the eighth frame. After Blazier led off being hit by a pitch, Cal York singled to left, putting runners on second and third after an outfield error. Jacob Lamont ripped a double to left scoring both runners to give Carmi a 5-3 advantage. After that, Post 224 collected five additional hits and two walks to continue the inning. After the smoke cleared, the visitors led 12-4.

Although Mt. Vernon rallied for four runs in their half of the eighth, Post 224 was able to hold on for the win.
