Solid Team Effort Lifts NCOE Over Red Bud
Saturday afternoon found the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Fighting Cardinal basketball team venturing to Elkville to take on the Red Bud Musketeers in a neutral non-conference game at the Elverado Shoot Out.
First quarter action was very balanced as NCOE jumped out to the early 3-0 lead but by the quarter's end the score would be knotted at 12-all. The second quarter would find NCOE dominating from start to finish as they would use eight different players to go on an 11-2 run which enabled the Fighting Cardinals to head to the locker room at halftime with the 23-14 advantage.
Following intermission, both teams would hit the court and play would start out a little sluggish for NCOE but as time progressed they would come together to outscore the Musketeers 10-6 to extend their lead to 13 points, 33-20, with just one quarter remaining. This fourth and final stanza would find the Fighting Cardinals play remain steady as they would connect on their free throws to keep their advantage in double digits until the games closure. This enabled NCOE to walk away with the 46-35 victory.
Three Fighting Cardinals hit the double digits category Saturday afternoon as Trey Simmons, Ty Money, and Joe Melton led NCOE with 13,13, and 10 points respectively. Others scoring were CJ Richardson with seven points, Jacob Richerson two points, and Eli Brown two points.
NCOE (10-4) will resume action Tuesday, January 7, when they welcome Wayne City to town and complete their week on Saturday, January 11, as they welcome a rematch with the Hamilton County Foxes.
