Friday evening started out very favorable for the NCOE Fighting Cardinal basketball team when they jumped out to the early 7-0 lead following a technical foul and two quick baskets in the semifinal game of the Christopher Turkey Tournament against the Wayne City Indians.  This quick lead was short lived as Wayne City came alive on the offensive end to erase this lead and claim their own lead at 8-7.  From this point on both teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the first quarter but as the buzzer sounded, it would be the Fighting Cardinals claiming the 18-16 advantage. The second quarter would not be as promising for NCOE when the sharp shooters of Wayne City came alive connecting at all areas of the floor.  This unstoppable Indian offense found the Fighting Cardinals panicking and going away from their own offense and what had earned them the two point advantage at the end of the first quarter .  This offensive meltdown as well as foul trouble found NCOE trailing by nine points heading into the locker room at halftime, 36-27. Second half action was a continuation of the second quarter with the Indians knocking down shots at all areas of the floor and NCOE finding no rhythm to their offense at all.  Although they battled as hard as they could the Fighting Cardinals had no answer for Wayne City, and this would find the Indians extending their lead and cruising to the 78-50 victory. Ty Money led the NCOE scoring with 16 points followed by CJ Richardson andJoe Melton with seven points each, Trey Simmons six points, Eli Brown and Preston Long five points each, and Nathaniel Wilson and Jake Rush two points a piece. NCOE (1-1) will now play New Athens in the 3rd place game Saturday evening.
